Shoutout to NCT U for our anthem for baggy jeans: A prominent trend that has been flourishing for months now. This was a common fashion movement that began in the 90s, but has been revived in the 21st century. The baggier the better am I right? Baggy denim has been the rave all over social media. In today's age, social media is an influential factor in the world of fashion. Fashion influencers and creators showcase this styling online for others to see and potentially inspire them for a similar look. Even celebrities indulge in the denim chicness. Three important factors to look at when discovering this trend: Styling, influence, and self-confidence. Look at A$AP Rocky rocking, no pun intended, his denim fashion.

Denim Analysis ๐Ÿ“

The baggy denim trend has been tied to streetwear and Y2K styling. Y2K came from the fear that once the year shifted from 1999 to 2000, the data would only be read as 00 and not 2000. Thankfully, everything went smoothly and we got some amazing fashion during this time. A huge thank you to New York Hip-hop culture for the style. Many rapper implemented this style in their music videos and a specific wrestler did as well. You know that man you can't see? Yup, John Cena.

Y2K and streetwear fashions focus on baggy clothing, specifically denim. The main styling that has been showcased is with baggy denim and a fitted or loose t-shirt. There are endless styling options to pick from. This trend has been taken over by Gen-Z. The amount of OOTD (Outfit of the Day/creators show what they are wearing for the day by describing their outfits) videos and posts made to display this fashion trend. In addition to Pinterest, finding styling inspirations have become easier. Pinterest will display various combinations from tops, bottoms, shoes, and even accessories.

Anytime I go out, I spot at least one pair of jorts (jean shorts). With the warm (I use warm loosely down here in Georgia) weather approaching, I guarantee there will be more. As a person apart of Gen-Z, I believe we all enjoy this trend because it's comfy and cute. A nice pair of baggy jeans/shorts and a top of choice is a quick/easy styling choice. I always try to match my top with my shoes, a little color coordination. You can also add to your outfit by accessorizing with some jewelry and a hat. Grab some sneakers or whatever shoes you prefer, and you're good to go! If you're in need of a pair or two, take a trip to your local thrift store.

What about years from now?๐Ÿ“…

I see this trend sticking around for years to come. They always say that something that goes out of style may come back in one day. I am certain they were talking about baggy denim. Social media's influence and growth is going to cause this trend to evolve. It just takes one person to take the fashion risk for others to follow in suit. All denim and jean fashion brands need to keep their eyes on this. It is not only an opportunity for more revenue, but to grow their brands in the process (I'm looking at Levi's, Wranglers, Calvin Klein in particular!).
Next step: creating more baggy denim options for everyone to enjoy and style. The summer is quicky approaching and outfits are ready to be created!
