“That’s So Raven” stars our lovely fashion psychic, Raven Baxter (Raven-Symoné), embarking on her fashion journey. With her friends Chelsea (Anneliese van der Pol) and Eddie (Orlando Brown), the three work together to ensure that things go right. This blog follows Raven's experience as a teen designer going through ups/downs of high school. In the episode “Clothes Minded”, Raven accidentally agrees with Principal Lawler about the school getting uniforms. She figures out that the way to reverse his decision is by fighting back with rebellion. However, she ends up in some trouble. Two words: vents and cheese. Not the best combination, but Principal Lawler ends up changing his mind on the uniforms!
Role of Fashion 👗
The main character, Raven Baxter, has dreamed of being a fashion designer since she was a child. This creative and captivating young woman designs her own outfits (we love to see it!). She added her own spin to original outfits as well. The popular site Buzzfeed ranked her best outfits on their website. A scene that resonates with me is when it cuts to first day of new uniforms. A complete change in the school's history and students aren’t happy about it. In retaliation, Raven and some other students decided to revamp the original uniform. This is impactful to see because as a black girl growing up, Raven was an inspiration to me. She decided to take a stand in what she believed in, even when her friends decided to opt out. The definition of a true leader. She looked phenomenal while doing it. Seeing her ability to turn scraps into success was motivational. Raven is one of the main reasons for my interest in fashion.

| (S2:E4 "Clothes Minded") [Left to right: Alana, Muffy, Raven, and Loca] Analysis of Fashion 📋My interpretation of the show is that it follows a young girls' dream of being a fashion designer and showcases her struggles with her psychic ability. With the guidance of her family and the help of her friends, she figures out her way through highschool. The concept of identity and the usage of intrapersonal communication was evident in how Raven takes pride in her fashion designs and clothing to express herself. The use of patterns and vivacious colors that draw people toward her. Her personality and outfits go hand-in-hand. They display her identity as a strong, artistic, and friendly individual. The character’s outfits came from many creative minds. As Raven Baxter got older and prepared for the character to start her internship, the show decided to bring in someone to help with this change. Check out the creative mind behind Raven's S4 outfits. The original style of Raven was still prominent, but with a little bit of professional flair. We love a girl that can do both: classy and chic. Wrap Up 📹"That's So Raven" is an iconic and entertaining throwback to the 2000s. A childhood classic in the world of psychics and fashionistas. This show displays the ambition of a young black girl determined to make it as a famous fashion designer. I recommend this show to all viewers looking for a funny and warm-hearted to binge. You will laugh, cry, and even learn something at the end of each episode. Disney did their thing when it came to this show's production. Open up Disney+ or Hulu, grab your favorite snack, and get ready to gaze into the future! (Credit: TVLine) |
